June 2014 is shaping up to be pretty freaking good. There’s a lot going on in the coming month, so were breaking down the MOST ANTICIPATED 10 EVENTS OF JUNE!
10. Belmont Stakes-June 7
California Chrome looks to become the first horse since Affirmed in 1978 to win the Triple Crown. 19 horses have won both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness since ’78, but have faltered at Belmont. The last leg of the Triple Crown is longer (1 1/2 miles) than either the Derby or Preakness. Will Chrome have the stamina to make history in New York?
9. Father’s Day-June 15
Really show dad you love him by purchasing the Robin Williams/Billy Crystal flick of the same name…or don’t, that’s your call. The classic gift for dad is always tools. That’s why I’m getting my dad the Justin Beiber collection. Your move, Beiber.
8. Wimbledon-June 23-July 6
Tennis’s Super Bowl gets underway in late-June and wraps up in early-July. Last year’s winners were Andy Murray and Marion Bartoli. Murray became the first Brit in nearly 80 years to win on the hallowed lawns. It was Bartoli’s first…and only slam, as she retired mere months after winning.
7. TV premiers-various
There’s some pretty big TV premieres in June. Netflix favorite, Orange is the New Black, kicks-off its second season on June 6. New seasons of True Blood (HBO) and Falling Skies (TNT) drop June 22. New shows, The Last Ship (TNT, June 22) and Tyrant (FX, June 24), look to attract viewers as well.
6. Stanley Cup Finals-Begins June 4
Well, we know the East representative will be the New York Rangers. Who makes it out of the West? We shall find out either tomorrow or Sunday, as LA and Chicago look to punch their ticket (LA leads 3-2 at the time of this post). The NHL has undoubtedly the best playoffs of any major sport. So, this should be must-see TV!
5. US Open (Golf)-June 12-15
The US Open returns to Pinehurst #2 for what is the toughest test in all of golf. It was just reported that Tiger Woods is a no-go with a back injury. Can Phil Mickelson make it a career slam? Lefty has finished runner-up six times at the Open.
4. Summer concerts-various
We touched on some of the biggest concerts of the summer here. So buy some tickets and have a good time with friends and family at these amazing shows.
3. NBA Finals-TBA
While the conference crowns are still in play, the league finals figure to be outstanding once again. Last year’s was an all-time classic between Miami and San Antonio. They could meet again this year, but not if Indiana and Oklahoma City have anything to say.
2. Summer movie premieres-various
June is always a fertile time for blockbusters (not the store) to open in theaters nationwide. At the top of this year’s slate are Edge of Tomorrow with Tom Cruise (don’t worry no couches were harmed), 22 Jump Street, and Transformers: Age of Extinction. Get your popcorn money ready…or with today’s prices, take out a reverse mortgage.
1. 70th Anniversary of D-Day-June 6
June 6 commemorates 70 years since the Allied invasion of France changed the world forever, and spelled the beginning of the end for Hitler and the Nazis. Expect many a TV special and movie related to the event to be run all day. Also, expect All-Time Best 10 to do a special countdown marking the occasion.
